Hello, and welcome to the Breakz homepage!
This site contains info and links about events put on (by ourselves, and others) both in and around campus and the York area. It also contains links to the best alternative music sites and radio stations. So if you're stuck working away in the computer room on an essay that should have been in last week, at 3 in the morning and your mates are out partying, have a browse through our site... have listen to some of the stuff in our music section - it will make it all seem a lot better!
Testament
Breakz invades York St John as we take over the Students’ Union for a night of musical debauchery on Friday, 17 February (Week 6). As usual, we will be serving up some suitably generous portions of our unique mix of musical styles for your aural pleasure.
We begin with some tight hip-hop delivered by DJ Yenz and DPsyfar [Herbal Mafia], accompanied by veritable anthology of MCs working the mic. For the true bass worshippers amongst you we have secured a grime set from Pix [Eat the Meek, Freak FM]. DJ Spoonfed will be pumping out some of the finest breakbeat records around.
We're proud to announce the return of DEADlock'd, as Breakz residents Subtrak, DJ Tenchu and Chris C go head to head, delivering their acclaimed fusion of funky beats and serious scratching. They follow some mashed up breaks with a heavily extended set of fat drum and bass tunage to get you and the bass bins jumping all night. As ever, our own Sh!ne MC will be spitting his double speed chat over the dirty beats.
Admission is FREE so there is no excuse not to be there.

Getting Involved
Breakz is run by a small team of people with little in the way of hierarchy, so you really can get stuck in, take decisions and make a difference from the start. A number of the current Breakz team will be leaving this year, so we really need your help.
We need:
- DJs – the core of everything we do, really
- MCs – if you can spit out some tight lyrics over dnb, hip-hop or anything else, we want to hear from you.
- Organisers – booking acts, running events on the night, scouting for venues and opportunities.
- Promoters – designing posters and flyers, working with printers, contacting media and other ents organisers, website, email campaigns, distribution.
If this sounds like your kinda thing then get in touch. or come along to our weekly meetings on Wednesdays at 1515 in Derwent bar.
Artwork
Breakz has been running for eight or nine years now (no-one's quite sure how long). We've archived posters from past Breakz events in the artwork section, including the cut out decks and mixer from the Krafty Kuts gig so you can print (and make!) your own. Take a look and see if it brings back any memories!
